High potential and gifted education

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

The school ensures that every student is engaged with evidence-informed teaching, leading to measurable learning progress and closing of equity gaps.

  • Student and staff conferenced learning goals, considering student's awareness of their journey
  • Advanced learning pathways are sought through collaborative partnerships outside the classroom
  • Significant adjustments and differentiation to suit personal learning journeys
  • Increase in the use of external intellectual opportunities for students from all backgrounds. For example: mathematics and writing competitions.
Across our school

There is a shared commitment between school and community that supports high aspiration and equitable outcomes, so all high potential and gifted students achieve in all domains.

  • Use of external intellectual opportunities for students from all backgrounds. For example: mathematics and writing competitions
  • Use diverse school and external physical events and opportunities to create high aspirational goal setting. For example: sports carnivals, individual events and music workshops.
  • We seek talent development opportunities to provide role models within the school and in the community in person and in virtual settings. For example: writing and STEAM workshops.
Across NSW

An embedded school wide approach informs and refines wellbeing practices which value student voice and consider perfectionism and forced choice dilemma.

  • Source opportunities, for example, through the Arts Unit, to develop the talent of high potential and gifted students from all backgrounds for example, Creative Arts Camp.
  • Implement procedures to ensure students participate in a vast array of sports that develop a range of physical skills and abilities delivered by players across a variety of sports.
  • Source experts through school partnerships and community organisations to optimise talent development. For example: published authors.
